Designing electrical distribution system for an industrial plant

In any industrial shed the designing of electrical distribution to end equipment is extremely crucial. Our client General Electric at Chakan forecasted as a multimodal facility meaning depending upon the orders the product being manufactured shall vary and hence the machinery.

This poses a challenge for power distribution as the electrical distribution system shall be flexible to match the forecast projected by the client.

Our approach to mitigate the challenge

  1. The entire plant was divided into two sections as per the maximum load forecast
  2. Proposed a maximum busbar trunking system of 3200A in each section
  3. The busbar trunk was designed with provisions of multiple taps at equal intervals.

The advantage of the system-

  1. The cost associated with the cabling and the replacement of cables each time the product manufactured changes is eliminated
  2. The cost of cable trays and associated PEB steel works was significantly reduced.
  3. Flexibility to the client to replace any machinery in any section as and when required.
